It seems that hype for the Legend of Mana anime adaptation is really building up. So much so that they’re now unveiling a teaser trailer and some key art for the anime to further build it up. Don’t believe me? Then check them out below:
A Classic Video Game Seen Anew
Warner Bros. Japan has just dropped a new teaser PV for Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal on YouTube. The teaser PV doesn’t show any footage from the anime, unfortunately. What it does show though are some nice anime stills and character art for the main characters. This list of characters includes Shiloh (apparently a defined main character from the game, since the game featured you playing as a nameless main character), Elazul, and Pearl. Nobunaga Shimazaki, Yūichirō Umehara, and Kaori Nazuka will play these main characters respectively.
There is character art of 4 additional female characters in this teaser trailer, but they don’t give names for any of them. The brown-haired woman with the large flowers and leaves in her hair looks like Sandra the “jewel hunter” and the brown-haired woman with the large hat looks like Florina, but I can’t identify any of the others. I can only presume that they’re minor characters, or characters unique to the anime.
To top it all off though, this teaser PV for Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal gives us a release window for the anime. Apparently, we can expect the anime to drop sometime this year in 2022. Exactly when in 2022 is something they don’t specify. The only window we can rule out is the Spring 2022 window, since that’s nearly over, and the anime shows no sign of appearing in the next month or so. Presumably, the exact date will arrive at a later date. Tune in later to find out when that will be when we get that info.
Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal ~ Details
Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal is the anime adaptation of the 1999 Japanese action role-playing game Legend of Mana. It’s the 4th game in the Mana series by Square (now Square Enix), with all of the games taking place in a high fantasy world called Mana. Legend of Mana, in particular, doesn’t actually feature a single overarching storyline. Instead, there are 3 main quest lines which culminate in a final questline that concludes the story of all 3.
Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal seems to feature the Jumi arc of the story from the original game. The Jumi in-game are a dying race facing persecution and genocide, due to apparently overhunting for the spherical jewels that serve as the source of their life. Elazul and Pearl are some of the last Jumi alive, which likely puts a very dark spin on this anime. If you want to find out more for yourself, you might want to wait for the anime to debut. Or if you can’t wait, then you can play the original game and find out for yourself. Square Enix even recently did a remaster of the game that was released on June 24, 2021. Thus, you can purchase the game and play it now to find out what happens to Elazul and Pearl.
