Unless you have been under a rock today you probably have noticed a few articles out there about Darth Maul and how he was written out of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series. Now don’t get me wrong I would love to see more of Darth Maul in any series, but when you look at the timelines it really does not make any sense. Yes, I understand that Maul is still alive during this time, but we also know maul had no idea where Kenobi was, or even if he was still alive. So here is why I feel like it would not make any sense to have Darth Maul in the Obi-Wan series.

Why Darth Maul Should Not Be In The Obi-Wan Series

We have seen a lot of reports about how Darth Maul was written out of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This story was reported by THR and even though Lucasfilm representatives have denied that Maul was going to be in the series, THR’s sources claim that he was. But either way, I am kind of glad there would be no maul because it would mess with some of the Maul and Kenobi storylines that have already been written.

So the easiest way of seeing how Darth Maul really wouldn’t fit into this series is by looking at the timeline. So we know that the Obi-wan Kenobi series is 10 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The Revenge of the Sith takes place in 19 BBY, which means Obi-Wan takes place in 9 BBY. So why is this important? Well now let’s head a few more years in the future to Star Wars: Rebels.

So Rebels starts around 5 BBY. This is four years after the start of the Obi-Wan series. Maul did not make his animated return until the season 2 Rebels finale. We also learn that Maul is not even sure if Kenobi is still alive, and it took the use of a Jedi and Sith Holocron and a spell from the Nightsisters for him to put it all together.

So Why Is All This Important?

So when looking at all this we know that he had no clue if Kenobi was alive. On top of that, even if he did, he would have no clue Kenobi was on Tatooine. So, unless you were going to throw Maul in as a flashback, it really makes no sense on having him in the series. I also feel putting Darth Maul in this series would be too much fan service and would possibly be a distraction in the story. I mean come on, we are getting Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, and Inquisitors; how much do you think they can cram into six episodes?
