Another day, another celebrity joining the Oppenheimer cast! Matthias Schweighöfer becomes the latest actor to board the Christopher Nolan project.
You probably recognize Schweighöfer from Zack Snyder’s Netflix feature Army of the Dead. He played the safecracker, Dieter – a character so popular he scored his own spinoff feature, Army of Thieves.
Schweighöfer joins an A-list cast for Oppenheimer opposite the likes of Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., and Matt Damon. Additional announced stars include Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh, Jack Quaid, David Dastmalchian, James D’Arcy, and Josh Peck, among others.
Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) will play the lead, scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. The film explores the life of the man who ran the Manhattan Project that lead to the invention of the atomic bomb.
Currently, we don’t have any details about Schweighöfer’s character.
Oppenheimer will premiere in theaters July 21, 2023. The summer spot is typical for Nolan blockbusters, but it also means the film will premiere within weeks of the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.
Schweighöfer is also slated to appear in another upcoming Netflix feature, Heart of Stone, opposite Gal Gadot.
