Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer is one of the most anticipated films of 2023 already. The film, which stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb. It also stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, Dane DeHaan, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Ehrenreich, and Matthew Modine.
In addition to those actors, it was also announced that Kenneth Branagh was joining the film. They started production this week on the gargantuan film that Nolan wrote and is directing. It’ll release worldwide on July 21st, 2023. It’s based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
Branagh recently finished Death on the Nile and has previously worked with Nolan on Dunkirk and Tenet.
The snapshot of Murphy in the title role shows him with a cigarette in period attire. Oppenheimer was definitely a smoker and he suffered from throat cancer in his later life due to it. The film follows the life of Oppenheimer and the people surrounding the creation of the atomic bomb.
