Sony look like they’re buying up everything for the PlayStation. Bluepoint Games is just their latest acquisition.

Ooh, pretty remastered graphics.

Sony Interactive Entertainment officially announces that they have acquired Bluepoint Games and have made it a part of their PlayStation Studios. Apparently, Sony were so impressed by Bluepoint’s remasters and remakes like Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, that they wanted the company itself. And now, they have it.

We’re thrilled to have officially joined PlayStation Studios!

Austin, Texas has been home base for Bluepoint from when we first founded the studio back in 2006 and we’re now a team of close to 70 super-talented creatives and growing. While the studio has certainly grown over the past 15 years, our cultural beliefs have remained the same- to always push the envelope and create the highest-quality games possible all while having fun doing it.  The focus on culture has been instrumental to our success and we’re excited that PlayStation Studios shares a similar culture and vision.

PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players. Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios, empowers our team to raise the quality-bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.

Thanks to everyone who’s supported us throughout the years – we can’t wait to bring you more amazing games in this next chapter for Bluepoint Games!

Now the real question is: what will Sony do with Bluepoint Games now?

Bluepoint Games: Now Making Their Own Game?

Sony Interactive Entertainment welcoming Bluepoint Games to the family.
Now that’s a pretty big family, and it’s only getting bigger.

Well, IGN revealed that Bluepoint Games doesn’t just want to keep working on remasters all the time. Apparently, they now want to do their own original game. Unfortunately, IGN has no details about this game. Only that it will be “original content”.

The only thing IGN notes is not to expect this “original content” game anytime soon. After all, Bluepoint Games only just finished their remaster of Demon’s Souls back in November 2020. It’s better to just be patient as far as this “original content” goes.

Our next project, we’re working on original content right now. We can’t talk about what that is, but that’s the next step in the evolution for us.

Marco Thrush, President, Bluepoint Games

Funnily enough though, this “original content” won’t be the first for Bluepoint Games. Anyone remember Blast Factor back for the PS3?

So Geometry Wars, but in a tighter space?

Yeah, the developer of Blast Factor was Bluepoint Games. It was actually their first game and, so far, their only original game. Blast Factor only got average reviews, as you would expect from this Geometry Wars look-alike. It’s a decent start though, and thankfully, it’s a very low bar to hurdle for this “original content” game.

Conclusion

Sony just bought Bluepoint Games for their PlayStation Studios. They don’t just want Bluepoint to work on remasters of classic games next either. They’re now developing their own “original content”. We have no information about what this “original content” is at the moment, but judging from their remasters of games like Demon’s Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, and Gravity Rush; it’s probably going to be pretty spectacular.
