If you’re a fan of horror, you’ve got to be a fan of Wes Craven. Right after the release of A Nightmare On Elm Street, Deadly Friend went into production in 1986. This is the first Blu-ray release for the upcoming film and Scream Factory has the goods. The extras package is coming at a later date, but for now we have the beautiful newly commissioned art for the slipcover and reversible cover.

The film’s story goes like this: After his friend is murdered by an abusive step-father, he decides to save her by implanting a robot chip in her brain. It’s a pretty far fetched story but one that works out in awesome ways. Here’s the quote on extras and the prospects of new footage.

This will be presented as a Collector’s Edition and will come guaranteed with a slipcover in its first three months of release. The newly commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from artist Colin Murdoch. This art will be front-facing, and the reverse side of the wrap will feature the original theatrical artwork. Extras will be announced on a later date, but we can confirm today that there will be a new HD transfer of the film (same runtime & content as the prior “Twisted Terror” DVD) and interview with actress Kristy Swanson!

We anticipate being asked if we found any alternate footage from the film (as seen in the original theatrical trailer) or Craven’s more milder original feature-length cut. Unfortunately, we could not locate any lost footage after investigating. Sorry, we tried. As fans of the film ourselves we wanted to see that too!

Deadly Friend releases from Scream Factory on Blu-ray this October 12th!
