Warmer Bros Kaiju’s universe can best be described as an underdog story. While 2014’s Godzilla; and 2017’s Kong Skull Island both did very well. 2019’s Godzilla King of Monsters struggled. Presenting an uphill battle for the universe’s first crossover movie Godzilla vs Kong.

Originally scheduled to release in March of 2020, but pushed back to May, and then November. Godzilla vs. Kong will mark the first time these two legendary titans have fought since the original King Kong vs. Godzilla back in 1962. In the original King Kongs status as a hero and his larger notoriety meant that he emerged victorious in the fight. However, IMBD’s synopsis for the upcoming movie suggests this will not be the case again.

“In a new world where man and monster now coexist, Monarch must lead the way to a prosperous future alongside the Titans, keeping humanity in check. However, rival factions that want to manipulate the Titans for war begin to rise under the guise of a nefarious conspiracy, threatening to wipe out all life on the planet. Meanwhile, on Skull Island, strange seismic activity draws the attention of Godzilla and Kong alike,”

Kong Wants To Be Left Alone!

The synopsis seems to suggest that it is Godzilla that will be drawn into an un-willing battle with Kong. It seems that Kong will be portrayed similarly to Marvel’s Hulk. A secluded loner who only wants to be left alone and is drawn into a battle with the hero. In this case Godzilla. Given the reasoning behind Kong’s victory in the original, and Godzilla’s re-branding as a hero. There is a strong possibility that Godzilla will emerge victoriously.

The inclusion of rival factions makes it clear the climactic fight will not be the end of the movie. Once their fight is concluded the two will likely realize they have been manipulated and go after the factions.

One Big Comic Book

Overall the movie sounds exactly like the comic book crossovers of the silver age. Where two heroes are tricked into a needless fight against each other. Then ultimately realizing they have been tricked and team up to fight the villain. Sounds like fun.
