Don your cowboy hats and get ready to go back in time. The Yellowstone prequel 1883 just added some huge names to lead the new series.

The Paramount+ series has cast Sam Elliott, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw to take you back to the beginning of the Dutton ranch.

Yellowstone: 1883 will follow James (McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Hill) as they go from Texas to Montana in search of the American dream. Along the way, the couple will be guided by Shea Brennan (Elliott), a “tough as nails, handsome cowboy with immense sadness in his past.”

The prequel series comes from Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan, whom Elliott personally praised upon boarding the project.

“It all starts with the writing, and Taylor Sheridan is a brilliant writer,” Elliott said in a statement. “I think the western genre speaks clearly to both of us. The classic struggles of man against man, man against nature, and man against himself. It’s all there, in 1883, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

By following the Dutton family’s trip in 1883, the prequel series plans to explore the themes of Western expansion  and the hopes and dreams of families who would risk everything to explore uncharted territory.

McGraw also praised Sheridan and expressed his excitement to join the series as the Dutton patriarch.

“Taylor has found a way of storytelling that brilliantly creates these epic dramas and family sagas with so much depth and creativity. The Duttons are tremendous characters and it’s so thrilling to be able to bring them to life. As a kid growing up riding horses, you think about dream jobs like this and I am just so excited to work with this amazing cast and crew,” said McGraw.

Added Hill, “The Duttons are a formidable family and it is an absolute dream to bring such a strong female character like Margaret Dutton to life. I am humbled and honored to work with Taylor and his entire team.”

1883 doesn’t have a release date yet, but season 4 of Yellowstone premieres this fall.
