Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was only officially announced last week. Our friends at Collider have the news that Ron Perlman is voicing the character Optimus Primal in the upcoming film. Primal is the leader of the Maximals from the original Beast Wars series. Perlman has previously played the character in the series Transformers: Power of the Primes.

Last week’s news gave us the revelation that the new film is focusing on the Beast Wars in the Transformers universe. The story, set in the 1990’s, introduces the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons. Those three join the already massive conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons. Perlman joins stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback. Steven Caple Jr. is directing a script by Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters.

Transformers: Rise of the Beastsreleases in theaters June 24th, 2022. We’ll have to see how good the film is when it comes out. If Bumblebee is any indication, the Transformers franchise might have taken a step forward from the somewhat mediocre sequels in recent years.

So, what do you think about Ron Perlman being cast as Optimus Primal in the upcoming Transformers movie?
