Way back in May of 2019 That Hashtag Show exclusively broke the news that Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan would headline the new, dystopian thriller Voyagers. Today Lionsgate released the poster and first look trailer for the upcoming film. By the looks of things, we’re going to be in for one thrill of a ride.
Here’s the official poster with synopsis below:
With the future of the human race at stake, a group of young men and women, bred for intelligence and obedience, embark on an expedition to colonize a distant planet. But when they uncover disturbing secrets about the mission, they defy their training and begin to explore their most primitive natures. As life on the ship descends into chaos, they’re consumed by fear, lust, and the insatiable hunger for power.
Voyagers: a deep dive into the human psyche
The film comes to us from writer and director Neil Burger. He’s already developing a strong résumé of films exploring the intricacies of the human mind. (Remember, he previously directed Limitless and The Illusionist.) Voyagers looks to continue in that vein. As we can see, things appear to quickly devolve aboard the outbound spacecraft. What becomes of “society” as its passengers give in to their basest instincts and desires?
Voyagers stars Colin Farrell (The Gentleman), Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One), and Lily-Rose Depp (Savage). The dystopian thriller looks to show us what happens when societal norms breaks down even in the most strictly controlled environment possible. The “euphoric sci-fi thriller” comes with a PG-13 rating mostly for violence and sexuality, of which you get a glimpse in the trailer above.
“This is our future. This is control,” the trailer tells us. It’s also, pleasure, hunger, and power. Combined, they will tear us apart. As Sheridan’s character Christopher laments, “maybe this is our true nature.”
We’ll find out soon enough. Voyagers arrives April 9. For more information visit:
