Come December 3rd, you’re going to know a lot more about Heaven’s Gate than you thought you did. What is Heaven’s Gate? It’s just one of the most famous cults of all-time. The group started in 1975 and continued all the way to 1997. A mass suicide was the end for the group. Through newfound video and first-person accounts, we’ll all get to explore the UFO cult like never before. Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults releases December 3rd. All four parts are available at the time of release, so no need to worry about getting caught between episodes. If you don’t have HBO Max and want to try out the first episode, it’ll be available for free at HBOMax.com/watch-free on December 4th. It comes from CNN Original Studios.

The Heaven’s Gate cult was led by Marshall Applewhite, or “Do”. They were based out of San Diego, California. The mass suicide that ended the group was built around the arrival of the Hale-Bopp Comet. Deputies of the San Diego Police department found the bodies of 39 members of the group including Applewhite’s. It’s a chilling tale of brainwashing and just how strong the grip of a crazed man can be on his followers.
