Star Wars fans are no strangers to a fancast, but it’s a bit more rare to see celebrities fancast themselves. But iZombie’s Rahul Kohli recently took to Twitter to announce he wants in.
“I’ve gotten into that Lothal orphan, force-sensitive, trained by Kanan Jarrus kind of shape. For no particular reason,” Kohli tweeted.
Yes, that’s Kohli throwing in his name to take on the role of Ezra Bridger from Star Wars Rebels.
Kohli’s tweet sparked fan speculation that a live-action Rebels series was finally in the works. Since the four-season run of the animated series ended in 2018, fans have been hoping for more.
Unfortunately, there’s no real plans for a live-action Rebels series. (At least, not at this time…)
The sudden influx of Star Wars fans engaging with his original tweet led Kohli to issue a joking retraction.
“Hey, uh, I was kidding. I am not playing Ezra Bridger. I was just goofing around,” Kohli says apologetically in the video. “Big shout out to the Star Wars fandom. I’m a part of it. I’m sorry for any hearts broken.”
Kohli also tweeted another cheeky apology, featuring side-by-side photos of himself and Ezra.
“Gonna go hide for a while, my bad everyone. Have a lovely rest of the day,” the tweet reads.
Fans may be disappointed that Kohli’s tweets aren’t evidence of a live action Star Wars Rebels series. However, it’s always exciting to see others’ passion for a fan-favorite character. And who knows? Maybe the right amount of fan pestering will get Disney and Lucasfilm to reconsider Rebels after all.
Meanwhile, you can see Kohli on screen next in Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor.
