Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House hit the platform two years ago and became an overnight sensation. Now, we’re getting a look at the followup, The Haunting of Bly Manor.

The Haunting of Hill House adapted Shirley Jackson’s gothic horror novel of the same name. Similarly, The Haunting of Bly Manor will adapt another gothic novel: Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw.

The Haunting of Bly Manor tells the story of an American governess who becomes an au pair to two orphaned children in 1980s England. The post was vacant because the previous caretaker died tragically on the grounds of the manor. In fact, more than one spirit seems to haunt Bly Manor. And worse still, the children themselves seem to have some kind of connection to the ghosts…

Officially, Mike Flanagan’s Haunting series will be an anthology, meaning the events and characters of Hill House won’t influence Bly Manor. However, several actors from the first spooky series will appear in the next one as new characters. (Similar to the structure of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story.)

Victoria Pedretti (the adult Nell Crain in Hill House) joins Bly Manor in the lead role of the governess. Henry Thomas (young Hugh Crain) will play Henry Wingrave, the children’s uncle. Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Luke Crain) and Kate Siegel (Theo Crain) will also appear in Bly Manor in yet unspecified roles.

Amelie Bea Smith and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth take on the lead children’s roles.

An exact release date for The Haunting of Bly Manor hasn’t been set. However, a recent tweet revealed the series should drop this fall. It seems like a safe bet to assume this one arrives in October, just in time for Halloween.
