James Gunn opened the panel. Informing fans that the film is still in post production but is right on schedule. Gunn then took several fan questions about the creative process for the movie. What drew him to it and some of his history with DC comics. One fan asked about how the film connected to the original John Ostrander Suicide Squad comics and so Gunn explained his creative vision for the film. He didn’t want to adapt the original Ostrander series. He wanted to create a spiritual sequel to those comics. Something that carried the spirit and the aesthetic of those comics but used new characters too. Additionally Gunn wanted to bring out the original series connection to the classic film The Dirty Dozen.

Meet The Suicide Squad

With fan questions out of the way Gunn then debuted the Role Call promotional teaser. Finally unveiling the principal cast of The Suicide Squad and who all they were playing. Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Margot Robbie, and Jai Courtney reprising their roles as Amanda Waller, Rick Flagg, Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang from the first film.

The rest of the cast were unveiled afterwards, John Cena as Peacemaker, David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Nathan Filion as Bloodsport, Flula Borg as Javelin, Nathan Filion as T.D.K., Peter Capaldi as Thinker, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Michael Rooker as Savant, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Mayling Ng as Mongal, Alice Braga as SolSoria, and Juan Diego Botto as El Presidente Luna. Steve Agee provided the on-set motion capture for King Shark with Taika Waititi providing the voice.

The Rest of the Panel

After the role call the principal cast joined Gunn in the video and played a round of comic book trivia. During this time other cast members were introduced with Storm Reid as Tyla (Bloodsport’s daughter), Joaquin Cosio as Major General Suarez and Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt. The cast revealed a couple more tidbits of the film during the game but mostly kept the exact details of the plot under wraps.

Afterwards the cast discussed the film one last time. Reiterating what a blast it was to film, how happy the studio is with it, and how excited they are to share it with audiences in 2021. The panel concluded with one last treat; a behind-the-scenes video that showed more footage of the film, and more interviews with the cast and producers. From this footage it’s clear that the movie is a Technicolor war action comedy. In the vein of Kelly’s Heroes but with z-list DC villains. The Suicide Squad comes out on August 6th 2021.
