This week DC Comics released Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy number 1. This will be a six-issue mini-series that takes place after the events of Heroes in Crisis. The relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy has grown strong in the DC universe. And in this comic it is no different as we watch Quinn and Ivy’s friendship go through some emotional ups and downs.

Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy

So, if you are new to the Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy story-line then this might be a tough issue for you to start with. For the fans that are familiar with this couple this story picks up where Heroes in Crisis left off. We get Harley and the resurrected Ivy back together and watch them deal with Ivy’s struggle to keep it together. Well after a gift from Lex Luthor things start looking up for them until The Floronic Man makes an appearance.

Harley Quinn

The Writer

Writer, Jody Houser does a great job of showing the emotional state of Harley Quinn. She was able to make fans feel the bond she has with Ivy on emotional level. Houser also does a great job of showing all of Quinn’s sides. From Humorous to Sadistic you were able to feel the mood she was going for. It seems like this was a setup for Quinn’s feelings because Houser did not really tackle to much on Ivy’s in this issue. Another thing that still isn’t clear yet, are these two a couple or just best friends looking to paint the town red? Either way I feel its time for DC to decide and let the fans know. It feels like DC is dancing around the relationship status of these two.

The Art for Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy

The art in this issue is good. Adriana Melo’s work does a great job of setting the mood and showing expressions. Melo also does a great job of making the scenes follow with the intent of the writer. The main issues I had was some of the art seemed like it was trailing off towards the end of the story showing less details. I also wasn’t sold on the look of The Floronic Man. He just did’t look right.

We want to hear from you

Overall if you are a Harley Quinn or Poison Ivy fan you will enjoy this comic. Again, if you are new to this couple you might want to do a little research to understand the beginning of this comic. I myself would of liked the story to start out with a little more action it took a while for me to really get into it. On my comic Hashtag scale of 10, I give it a 6 Hashtags. This is a must read for Quinn and Ivy fans.
