If you bought the April 12 square in the Star Wars: Episode IX trailer release pool, you should probably get ready to cash in. It’s looking more and more like that’s going to be the date for our first, official glimpse at Episode IX.
Star Wars Celebration begins April 11, 2019 in Chicago. As we told you previously, the event just announced that there will indeed be an Episode IX panel at Celebration. JJ Abrams and Oscar Isaac are already confirmed. So what does this announcement mean with it comes to the Episode IX trailer release? Past history dictates that the panel will be when Abrams finally gives fans the trailer, and the film title, we’ve been looking for.
Episode IX Trailer Release Likely to Occur During Panel Discussion
Fans have been waiting anxiously to see something, anything from the new film. Rumors of the trailer making its way to UK theaters spurred a wave of speculation that we’d see an Episode IX trailer release with Captain Marvel, which debuted last week. Of course that didn’t happen. That leaves Celebration as the most likely time for fans to see footage from the final Star Wars film of the Skywalker saga.
It can’t come soon enough. With so much backlash to The Last Jedi (which even prompted Frank Oz to chime in), the franchise needs something positive. Actor Oscar Isaac claims the film will “blow fans away.” His co-star John Boyega, on the other hand, tells us the film is going to be “visually crazy.” That’s all well and good, but when fans haven’t yet seen any evidence to support those claims? Let’s just says the mob that is the Star Wars fandom is getting restless.
With Avengers: Endgame opening later in April, Star Wars Celebration is now the most logical time for the Episode IX trailer release. If it drops April 12, that gives theaters plenty of time to tee it up to roll prior to Endgame two weeks later.
We’ve waited this long. I guess a few more weeks won’t hurt. Much.
Star Wars Celebration runs from April 11-15 in Chicago. Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters December 20.
