Thanks to a report from Revenge of the Fans earlier this week, the DC fandom has been buzzing with rumors about the reasons behind the lack of a Man of Steel 2 film and the delay on announcing Henry Cavill’s return to or departure from the Worlds of DC as a whole. And thanks to a follow-up from Collider, the fact or fiction behind those rumors has been revealed.

According to the first story, despite James Gun being offered a Superman film last year, negotiations for a Man of Steel sequel were being held up by Cavill himself and his many demands. Supposedly, his team wanted a producer credit, preliminary approval on both director and script, and of course a raise. But since Tuesday, we’ve learned that’s not quite the case.

At least one of them is still in the running…

Upon being contacted by Collider, Cavill’s team declared the report “patently inaccurate” and added that there is “no truth to this.” That’s certainly a stronger statement than making no comment, and it’s logical to assume Cavill and his people would know better than to make such impossible demands when the fate of the movie was already in question.

We’re still not any closer to figuring out the status of Superman in the land of DC films than we were the last time a report of his exit came out, but at least we can rest assured that the responsibility does not fall on Cavil’s broad shoulders. While it’s understandable that fans would be restless after Ben Affleck left Batman behind, they can take comfort in the fact that the rest of the Justice League is still in place and with sequels in the works.

How quickly might we get a Man of Steel 2, if we get one at all? That all depends on how well Shazam, Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984 are received. If all goes swimmingly, though, Clark Kent may be flying into theatres sooner rather than later.
