It appears that a few more stars really want a taste of Peacemaker. With the second season of the acclaimed Max series currently in production, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn is adding some fresh faces to the cast. Headlined by John Cena as the brash titular character from the 2021 DCEU film The Suicide Squad; the cast currently includes Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee. And now Sol Rodriguez and David Denman have joined the ranks.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is currently unknown who Denman will play. Fans of the acclaimed sitcom The Office will recognize him as Roy Anderson, the ex-fiance of Jenna Fischer’s Pam Beesly. You can also see him in Mare of Easttown, Big Fish, and Brightburn

As for Rodriguez, the Argentinian actor known for her roles in the Freeform reboot of Party of Five and Star Trek: Picard will play Sasha Bordeaux. The character was created by Greg Rucka and Shawn Martinbrough for Detective Comics #751. Wayne Enterprises’s Lucius Fox hired Bordeaux to be Bruce Wayne’s bodyguard. After discovering that Wayne is Batman, the martial artist became the Caped Crusader’s apprentice. However, after spending time in Blackgate Prison, she joined the ranks of a Task Force X subsidiary known as Checkmate.

John Cena as Peacemaker

Bordeaux’s involvement does offer some potential hints at where Peacemaker season 2 may be leading. Maybe after his mission with A.R.G.U.S., Checkmate needs Christopher Smith’s particular set of skills next. Although, whatever may be in store for him at these shadowy agencies might be hindered thanks to another new character who also fancies himself a badass. Previously, it was announced that Frank Grillo would be appearing in the new season as well. The Captain America: The Winter Soldier star reprises his role as Rick Flag Sr. from the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos, which will have a presence at this week’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. Since Cena’s character murdered Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag in The Suicide Squad, obviously the elder Flag has some unfinished business with Peacemaker regarding his son. So, how much crazier will it be if they’re forced to work together?

While all that could potentially be happening onscreen; it will be a little different behind the scenes for the sophomore season. Due to his commitments to Superman starring  David Corenswet, Gunn will only get to direct three of the eight episodes of this “soft reboot” that will be considered part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Although, since Peacemaker moved their production to Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, the filmmaker will be able to work on both projects simultaneously.
