The team behind the eagerly awaited satirical musical Willy’s Candy Spectacular unveiled the fourth demo track, “The Unknown.” This latest creation comes from Daniel Mertzlufft, known for his viral hit Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical which took TikTok by storm in 2021.

As an avid TikTok addict, the Glasgow fiasco was my entire FYP for a solid week, and nothing was more intriguing than The Unknown! Who is he? Where did he come from? How does he fit into Roald Dahl lore? I never thought my obsession over these questions would lead to writing a horror song for puppets about The Unknown starting the apocalypse, but that’s the fun of Willy’s Candy Spectacular! When else do you have the ability to truly just explore the unknown!?

BUT WAIT, WHAT IS THIS NEW MUSICAL ABOUT?

There was an event inspired by Willy Wonka that was advertised in Scotland. It looked to be a fun, Instagram-able popup for fans as well as influencers alike. The Willy Wonka event was priced at $45 per person and marketed as an immersive walk-through. The event promised to transport attendees into the world of Willy Wonka’s factory.

The promotional images showcased vibrant lighting and intricate designs reminiscent of a theme park. However, it was later revealed that these visuals were generated by artificial intelligence. Upon arrival, parents and children discovered an empty warehouse with minimal props and lacking the immersive experience that was advertised. So, what was supposed to be a journey into a world of pure imagination, turned out to be a nightmare. But what do they say? One man’s nightmare is another man’s dream.

Fans can look forward to weekly releases of new demo songs from Willy’s Candy Spectacular every Sunday in the upcoming weeks. The musical will have a staged reading at the Pleasance King Dome from August 9th to 26th, 2024, as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Fest 2024.
