Isaac will make the jump from video game to TV screen. Jeffrey Wright, who voiced the character in The Last of Us Part II game, will also play the role in the upcoming season of the HBO series adaptation.

Isaac is a quietly powerful leader of a large militia group. He sought liberty but instead became mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.

Wright is the second actor to make the jump from voicing a game character to portraying the same character on-screen for The Last of Us series; in season 1, Merle Dandridge did the same for her character Marlene. The show’s first season also gave supporting roles to Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson (Joel and Ellie in the game).

Wright joins the growing number of confirmed cast members for the apocalyptic drama’s second season. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will reprise their roles as Joel and Ellie. The extended cast will also feature Gabriel Luna, Kaitlyn Dever, Young Manzino, Isabela Merced, and Catherine O’Hara.

Based on the critically acclaimed video game, developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation, The Last of Us takes place twenty years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Season 2 is currently in production, and expected to premiere in 2025. You can stream season 1 of The Last of Us on Max now.
