The Looney Tunes are back on the big screen with The Day The Earth Blew Up. It stars Porky Pig and Daffy Duck as they try to navigate a disaster striking Earth. Along the way, the two Tunes learn about family, acceptance, forgiveness, and of course how to operate a flamethrower. The Day The Earth Blew Up feels like classic cartoons that it really seems like kids have been missing out on. This one is hilarious, with plenty of gags that people of all ages will enjoy.
The Day The Earth Blew Up starts off with a bit of an origin for Porky Pig and Daffy Duck. They’re entwined with each other after being saved by Farmer Jim as babies. We’re shown them growing up with one another until Farmer Jim eventually leaves to go off to the farm in the sky. It’s an already emotional moment and we’re not even 5 minutes into the movie. Cut to present day and Porky and Daffy live in the same farmhouse they grew up in, but now its surrounded by a neighborhood with a Karen of an HOA leader. There’s also a story here about an alien invasion that a scientist finds out about, but he’s turned by the aliens.
Daffy and Porky have to find the money to fix their broken roof or else they’ll be kicked out of their home, the farmhouse demolished, and they’ll be out on the street. This brings in the next bit of laughs in the film as they try and fail at odd jobs, including becoming influencers. Seeing Daffy Duck twerk on a vertical screen wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025, but it’s absolutely hilarious.

Their job hunt ends with more failure and Daffy and Porky meet Petunia Pig at a diner. She works for a gum company that is in dire need of a new, explosive flavor. The new flavor ends up being alien in some form and turns whoever chews it into a brainless drone. Daffy, Porky, and Petunia have to band together to save the Earth before the entire population is a slave to the new aliens.
It has some more twists and turns from there with one of the funniest scenes coming in the climax of the film. But The Day The Earth Blew Up will restore your faith in the Looney Tunes and in animation as a whole. We don’t get nearly enough kid’s movies like this that are entertaining for all ages. Eric Bauza voices Daffy and Porky amazingly. They both have so much life and energy to their voices, and when the movie gets emotional, you’ll feel it in his performance. The idea that a cartoon pig and an insane duck could make you feel things is a testament to the script from Kevin Costello and Co (there are more than 11 contributors here).
This is a refreshing movie across the board, the script is tight, the story is fun, and the animation is 2D, hand-drawn. For all the nostalgia baiting we get with media these days, it’s strange that we don’t get anything like this very often. If you love classic Looney Tunes, you’ll get a kick out of The Day The Earth Blew Up.

As it goes on, we get an increasingly relatable story from Porky and Daffy with real emotions. Daffy Duck questions himself and his ability to not mess things up. That’s something that we all can relate to in our own lives. This is the rare movie that pays homage to the past but also gives itself enough space to forge its own path.
Now they just need to reverse course on Acme Vs. Coyote and release that film…
