The Walt Disney Studios announced today that it will debut its new film Artemis Fowl exclusively on Disney+. We’ll be getting a release date soon according to the press release.
Based on the best-selling young adult book by Eoin Colfer, the film stars newcomer Ferdia Shaw in the title role. Also starring in the film are Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Josh McGuire, Nikesh Patel, and Adrian Scarborough. It also features Colin Farrell and Judi Dench.
Slated for release on May 29th, 2020, Artemis Fowl is now coming straight to Disney+. Films like Mulan and New Mutants have new spots on the calendar also.
What Is Artemis Fowl About?
The film tells the story of the titular character and his journey to find out why his father has mysteriously disappeared. Artemis is a 12 year old genius prodigy. He comes from a long line of criminal masterminds, including his father. This journey that he undertakes, shows him a new world of magic creatures. These creatures, other-known as Faeries, are a powerful force that might be the key to finding his lost father.
Kenneth Branagh, p.g.a. and Judy Hofflund, p.g.a. are producing with Angus More Gordon and Matthew Jenkins serving as executive producers. Conor McPherson and Hamish McColl wrote the screenplay.
The Artemis Fowl books are currently available in the U.S. from Disney-Hyperion.
