Sam Raimi and the late Stan Lee.

That’s right folks, the acclaimed director of the Evil Dead trilogy and the Spider-Man trilogy could be on his way to the MCU. According to Variety, Raimi is in talks to replace Scott Derrickson. Derrickson left the project earlier this year over creative differences. You can read about that here. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is still set for filming later this year. It’ll release on May 7th, 2021.

Sam Raimi is the originator of the superhero crazy that we’re in. His Spider-Man films were the first of the genre to go ballistic at the box office. Raimi hasn’t had a big box office success to that level since though. With his career taking a more independent and smaller budget turn with Drag Me To Hell and producing films. Normally Marvel likes to take a relatively new director for their films and make a star out of them. With something like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it could perform a similar track to restart Raimi’s directing career.

This is a huge get for Marvel because of how respected his Spider-Man trilogy of films is, especially Spider-Man 2. Benedict Cumberbatch is returning as the Sorceror Supreme. Hopefully Raimi can lend his distinct style to the film. Also returning is Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch. You can see her in the trailer for the new show, WandaVision, here.
