Netflix’s smash hit Stranger Things has been renewed for a fourth season by the entertainment juggernaut. This should come as no surprise to fans of the show. It’s one of the most popular entertainment properties in the world right now. The first episode of season three was the most watched episode in the history of the provider. Without spoiling too much for season three, it was left on a pretty big cliffhanger. Fans are clamoring for a conclusion.
In addition to the news of the renewal, the Duffer Brothers have signed multi-year deals to produce television and film properties. This is fantastic news for everyone involved. The Duffer Brothers have brought a new look to television with Stranger Things. It’ll be interesting to see what they can do with other properties.
This can only mean one thing, we’re returning to Hawkins in the near future. The trailer says that “we’re not in Hawkins anymore”. It’s true that we might not be in Hawkins because of the Upside Down, but we’ll most assuredly be returning to Hawkins. That’s the epicenter of all this messed up activity throughout the series.
This could be the last hurrah for Stranger Things in it’s current incarnation. Originally pitched as an anthology, the Duffer Brothers created such a deep and vibrant world that people wanted more of that. An anthology series could prove to be interesting. The Halloween films tried this to a very negative result from fans in Halloween 3: Season of the Witch. That shouldn’t dissuade them from trying something new. The Duffer Brothers have already proven that they won’t jump the shark with Stranger Things and want to end it before it gets too campy and awful. Following up on this, the possibilities for them in film are numerous.
What Lies Ahead for The Duffer Brothers and Stranger Things
Either way, the Duffer Brothers and Netflix have found a fantastic partnership together. Stranger Things is a phenomenon that has lasted this long. The story has to continue. I’m excited for this upcoming season and we’ll definitely have more about this when the news breaks about it.
