A “Power Rangers” film featuring Power Rangers from the past is on its way, That Hashtag Show learned at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention Fall 2019. Former “Power Rangers” actor Jason Faunt described the “Power Rangers” spin-off at FanX as “after ‘Power Rangers’” and “Power Ranger-based, not Power Ranger themed.”
“It’s going to star Power Rangers, but not have anything to do with it, But they will be maybe vigilantes – underground superheroes – but it won’t be ‘Power Rangers.’” It will [however] be starring people who were Power Rangers.”
Jason Faunt, speaking at FanX, which ran Thursday through Saturday in Salt Lake City, Utah.
News of the new Power Rangers spin-off wasn’t the only Power Rangers headline to come out of FanX, however. We also learned that Actress Nakia Burrise (“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”) can be heard in in “Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures.” Likewise, Actress Catherine Sutherland (“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”) wrote a children’s book titled “The Boy with the Heart on His Sleeve.” It is based on her son, Sutherland said at FanX. Sutherland is also working on a book based on her mother.
Lastly, Johnny Yong Bosch (“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”) described his new film “Promare” as “high-concept.” Yong Bosch is also shooting a western based on a graphic novel and he grew up on westerns, he said.
Other FanX News
Hayden Christensen’s agent canceled a panel at FanX between Christensen and Ian McDiarmid
That’s according to FanX co-founder Dan Farr, said Blake Casselman, FanX’s director of programming.
Christensen and McDiarmid played Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, respectively, in “Star Wars.” Christensen has been rumored to be in the next “Star Wars” installment, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” McDiarmid will be.
“It was unclear as to why or whether or not Disney was the reason. I’ve heard three different reasons,” Casselman told That Hashtag Show. FanX attendee Amber Edwards told That Hashtag Show that Disney was behind the cancellation. “Star Wars” studio Lucasfilm, which Disney owns, did not return a request for comment by the time of this article’s publication. In other “Star Wars” news… Ming-Na Wen (“Mulan”) said on a FanX panel that she prays to God, Buddha and the Force as she did when she was younger. Wen also confirmed at FanX that she will indeed be in the “Star Wars” TV show “The Mandalorian.”
“Vicious Circle,” “Promare,” “Death Stranding,” and “Waltzing with Brando” all featured at FanX
Also on tap or recently released: the game “Vicious Circle” (released Aug. 13); the film “Promare” (out Sept. 17); the game “Death Stranding” (out Nov. 8); and “Waltzing With Brando” (release date not yet set). Actors Michael Jones, Johnny Yong Bosch, Lindsay Wagner and Billy Zane respectively revealed production details at FanX.
Lindsay Wagner on Death Stranding
Motion capture made Lindsey Wagner decades younger in “Death Stranding,” we learned. A photo Wagner (“The Bionic Woman”) provided at FanX to That Hashtag Show revealed that. Wagner also said she learned through “Death Stranding” that making a game requires more than it does to make a movie. “Every strand of hair was drawn out,” Wagner said. She also noted that the technology that made her younger in the game involved her wearing dots on her face and wearing a jumpsuit as part of the motion-capture technology process.
Waltzing with Brando
“Waltzing With Brando” is a sort of Marlon Brando biopic, Zane said. It focuses on Brando seeking with architect Vernon Judge to build the world’s first ecologically flawless getaway. And that was in a remote place in Tahiti, Zane said at FanX. That work brought about a five-year-long friendship between Brandon and Judge. The structure came at Brando’s request, Zane said.
“No one was ever thinking about that,” Zane said, referring to environmental concerns. “I’m a firm believer in that kind of designed thinking.” Zane is glad to promote Brando’s “caused-based philosophy” while also telling the story of a “very much-loved, renowned, complex character.” “The young people” will like the “Brando” for the environmental concerns while older generations will like it for Brando, Zane said at FanX.
When it came to Brando personally, Zane remarked that he had “… as much respect for the man as the artist.”
Sailor Moon for a New Generation
Katie Griffin (“Sailor Moon”) is happy that “Sailor Moon” fans can enjoy the new show. As Griffin said, the version Griffin was part of from 1995 from 2000 was censored. Other issues that plagued Griffin’s show included “internal politics” and a company that was seeking to buy the show, Griffin said. (Note: Griffin isn’t in the current “Sailor Moon” show being run by Viz Media.) “It was kind of a bit of a rip-off for the fans,” Griffin said of her Sailor Moon production.
There are no limitations and they’re doing it the right way (now), so I’m really happy.”

Griffin is especially excited about the conclusion of the current show.
