Looks like the DC Universe may get even more Colin Farrell. Deadline revealed today that the actor is in negotiations for the upcoming project Sgt. Rock

Farrell would play Sgt. Franklin John Rock, a DC character who first debuted in 1959. The World War II soldier gained popularity with his own comics line which ran in the 70s and 80s.

Previously, DC Studios was said to be eyeing Daniel Craig for the role. However, DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran said no offer was ever made to Craig.

Farrell is already a DC star, playing Oswald Cobb, aka the Penguin in The Batman feature, as well as in his spinoff HBO series The Penguin. However, while a DC character, these projects fall under Matt Reeves’ Batman universe. This exists separately from the DCEU, in which Sgt. Rock falls. So, Farrell’s two characters wouldn’t potentially meet on screen.

Sgt. Rock comes from director Luca Guadagnino. Screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes wrote the film. Kuritzkes and Guadagnino previously teamed for Challengers and Queer.

The feature plans to begin shooting in the UK this summer.
