Following months of rumors, DC Studios bosses have confirmed that Daniel Craig was never attached to Sgt. Rock. It was previously reported that Craig was getting ready to join the DCU by joining Luca Guadagino’s live-action Sgt. Rock film. The pair had recently worked together on Queer, which landed Craig a SAG Award nomination.
Last week, it was reported that Craig had exited the project, with reports wondering if it was due to his disappointment in Queer’s lack of awards recognition or due to scheduling conflicts with his wife, Rachel Weisz. However, at a DC Studios press event last week, bosses revealed that the former James Bond actor was attached to the role.
Peter Safran confirmed that they never spoke about him appearing in Sgt Rock despite Daniel Craig’s close relationship with the Italian director. Rock. The DC Studios co-CEO did admit that they never shut down the rumors of his casting despite the studio never meeting with the Knives Out star.
“Daniel was just, for what it’s worth, was never attached,” Safran explained during the press event. “He and Luca have an incredible relationship, and so Luca was talking to him about it. But, you know, we never met with Daniel, he was just an idea.”
