Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s producer addressed recasting T’Challa. Nate Moore was the VP of Production & Development at Marvel Studios during that movie’s release. He told ComicBook that the rumors of a new T’Challa were just Internet rumors. Moore has heard all the chatter and reiterates that they’re hard at work on Black Panther 3.

Moore began, “The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors. Never say never to anything, we haven’t really had a lot of creative conversations with Ryan Coogler yet, because he’s finishing his film Sinners, which comes out this year. We’ll get into it later this year, but everything you read online is not true, if for no other reason than we just haven’t started [working on it].”

“I’m sure Wakanda will have an opinion about the arrival of Adamantium. And I’m sure Wakanda had an opinion on Sam Wilson as Captain America,” the producer continued. “Clearly, they seem to support him, as they’ve given him some technology to help him out.”

“But Wakanda isn’t in the best graces with the U.S. government, so there’s a possibility for conflict in a lot of different ways,” Moore clarified. “I think Wakanda, to me, gets to play in the same political thriller sandbox as Captain America because it does deal with globalization and global politics, so anything is possible.”

Marvel Decided Not To Recast

Black Panther Wakanda Forever

A lot of fans have discussed the idea of recasting T’Challa after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Shuri is the Wakandan hero in the movies now. But, the movie leaves the door open for a number of possibilities moving forward. Fans probably need to be a little patient to see what the plans for the future of the entire Black Panther franchise.

Back when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was about to hit theaters, Kevin Feige had to address recasting T’Challa. He told Empire Magazine that Ryan Coogler and the creative team did not take the decision to make the sequel lightly. There’s a moment when reality has to come first and that means it might be a little while before we see T’Challa on-screen again.

“It just felt like it was much too soon to recast,” Feige began. “Stan Lee always said that Marvel represents the world outside your window. And we had talked about how, as extraordinary and fantastical as our characters and stories are, there’s a relatable and human element to everything we do. The world is still processing the loss of Chad. And Ryan poured that into the story.”
