Eternal Arcadia is one of the most famous of the old RPGs from the late ’90s to early 2000s, although we here in North America would better know the game as Skies of Arcadia. The game is actually an integral part of my own childhood, as well as the childhoods of quite a bit of you, I would imagine.

After all, when it came out for the SEGA Dreamcast here on November 14, 2000 (a month after its Japanese release on October 5, 2000), it was a hit. It received critical acclaim, even if it didn’t do as well in sales numbers. In fact, those same critics regarded it as one of the best games for the Dreamcast. Much of it simply due to the game allowing you to fly an airship in a 3D space. The later Nintendo GameCube port on January 28, 2003 here in NA (titled Skies of Arcadia Legends) only cemented that fame.

Alas, since those glory days, we haven’t heard a peep from SEGA about Skies of Arcadia. Despite the massive amount of fan support for a modern re-release of the game, mind you. Even as late as 2020, main developer Kenji Hiruta has mentioned he was interested in returning to the game. Heck, we even get cameos in other SEGA games like Valkyria Chronicles and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Thus, it’s both puzzling and disappointing that SEGA seemingly chooses not to do anything more with the game.

That is, until now.

Skies of Arcadia Trademark Filing: Details

Skies of Arcadia Dreamcast cover art
This cover art brings back so many memories, but they may lead to some new ones.

Gematsu has just revealed that SEGA has very recently filed trademarks for Eternal Arcadia / Skies of Arcadia in their home nation of Japan. How recently, you might ask? Well, they mention that SEGA filed the trademarks themselves on January 16, 2025. It took a mere eight days later on January 24, 2025 for the filing to go public where we can see it.

So what does this mean, you might ask? Unfortunately, it could mean nothing. SEGA has previously renewed their trademarks for Eternal Arcadia / Skies of Arcadia with nothing coming of it. The most recent being in 2012, mind you. However, it could also very well mean that the long-awaited HD remaster of the game is in the works at long last. Possibly even with some new content in it to spice things up. Alas, this is all speculation for now. We will have to wait for SEGA to announce their next move with the game, if they ever do so. Until then, enjoy this oddly split trailer from IGN.

This brings back so many Skies of Arcadia memories for me.
But why is this trailer split into two parts?

Tune back in to THS later to find out more about Eternal Arcadia / Skies of Arcadia and other video games when we do.
