Venom: The Last Dance kept its first place spot despite some strong competition.

Venom Continues To Devour The Box Office

As per Box Office Mojo, Venom: The Last Dance placed first with $16.2 million. The movie has earned $114 million now and has been a clear success for Sony with legs at the theaters.

Newcomer The Best Christmas Pageant Ever placed second with $11.1 million. Which was in line with my predictions. The movie tapped into the holiday crowd and did moderately well. Time will tell how long it’ll last at the box office, but for now it’s doing quite well.

Heretic, directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, has achieved early box office success despite facing stiff competition, making $11 million. The horror-thriller was bolstered by a strong critical response, holding a 96% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Hugh Grant’s unsettling performance as a villain caught audience interest, particularly as he shifted from his typical roles. The film drew fans of horror with an A24 pedigree, and its standout performance and unique premise have helped it emerge as a notable success in the genre this season.

Rounding out the Top 5 was The Wild Robot in fourth and Smile 2 in fifth.

Next Weekend’s Predictions

The new release next week is the holiday action-comedy Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, is expected to have a modest opening at the box office. Despite its massive $200 million budget, it is tracking for a $36 million in its debut weekend in North America. I do think poor reviews will bring it down to $25 million to $30 million, but the movie will almost assuredly place first.

The film faces stiff competition with other major holiday releases like Moana 2 and Wicked Part 1 looming on the horizon. So it’s success next weekend will likely be short lived with its competition on its heels.

As always, we’ll find out next week!
