MAKE A GIRL will soon be the theatrical debut of Gensho Yasuda. Fans of short animation might find that name just a bit familiar. If you have ever watched those YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter shorts involving that robot maid on a unicycle-like carriage, then you would be especially familiar with that director. Yeah, he and his small team at Gensho Yasuda Studio have been responsible for all those shorts. The fluid animation, complete with cel shading-like effects, as well as their amusing stories have caught the internet by storm.

Thus, you can see why Gensho Yasuda making a full length anime film would be such a big deal. All the moreso after you watch the official trailer for MAKE A GIRL. Don’t believe me? Then why not watch that very trailer below, and see for yourself if this is the cyberpunk thriller romcom(?) for you?

Bonus: Visual and Introduction

I sense a morally complex story in the works here.

That’s not all, folks! KADOKAWA also has an official introduction to MAKE A GIRL to tease the story a bit. You can check out that intro below:

The first theatrical feature-length animation project by animator Gensho Yasuda, who boasts over 6 million total followers on social media platforms including YouTube and TikTok, has finally begun!

Gensho Yasuda, who has gained praise both domestically and internationally for his independently produced 3D short animations, music videos, and corporate promotional animations, is directing this project. It is a completely original work made with full 3DCG, delivering “300% Gensho Yasuda purity.” The crowdfunding campaign conducted for the production surpassed the target by over 230%, proving the overwhelming popularity and international attention.

The story takes place in the near future: Akira Mizutamari, a scientific genius who succeeded in developing and commercializing SALT, a robot that supports people’s lives, finds himself stuck in a rut when all of his new inventions fail. After hearing from a friend that he can “power up” by creating a girlfriend, he does literally that and scientifically creates an “artificial” girlfriend named “No. Zero”. Torn between her programmed emotions and her growing feelings, No. Zero starts to waver. Is it “love” that buds between her and Akira, who is unaccustomed to communicating with others, or perhaps something else……?

The fascinating characters for this story are played by Atsumi Tanezaki (No. Zero), who has shown her ability to transform from one character to another in roles such as Anya in “SPY x FAMILY” and Frieren in “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”, and Shun Horie (Akira Mizutamari), who has been selected for leading roles in various popular works, including Kyoutarou Ichikawa in “The Dangers in My Heart”. Gensho Yasuda’s unpredictable super-new cyber love suspense animation is now coming to the world ────!
