The ongoing Cola Wars is a conflict most people will be quite familiar with. Mainly due to the two combatants: The Coca-Cola Company, and PepsiCo. The two soft drink companies have been at “war” with each other ever since the Pepsi-Cola Company (the original name of PepsiCo) first opened in 1902 to oppose The Coca-Cola Company. Seriously, that’s how long this conflict has been going on. 122 years is a very long time for a “war” like this to have been going on. With no end in sight to this conflict, all we can do is merely observe it and report on developing events.

Developing events like a film adaptation of this conflict, appropriate titled Cola Wars. In fact, it now already has its director and producer. One of which actually has a pretty big stake in this movie, and is even in charge of the company producing it, no less.

Cola Wars: Director and Producer Details

Deadline has just revealed that the upcoming Cola Wars film in development at Sony has just gotten its director and producer. To start with: Judd Apatow will be directing this film. Among his many jobs, you might notice that one of them is “comedian”. Yes, Apatow has been responsible for a number of comedy films, including The 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and The Bubble. Already, you can tell what kind of film this Cola Wars film will be about. Which will hopefully mean we will be in for a hilarious time.

As for the producer? Well, as it turns out: the great Steven Spielberg will be producing Cola Wars. Longtime cinema fans will recall seeing his name on the likes of Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and Saving Private Ryan. However, Spielberg fans will also recall that he heads Amblin Entertainment. That company has produced some of the great classics like Gremlins, Back to the Future, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In fact, Amblin is the production company behind Cola Wars, after the company bought the rights to the project for over $1 million USD back in April 2024.

All of this points to this upcoming film being a potentially great comedy film. Alas, we don’t know much about the film yet other than its basic premise. Jason Shuman (currently in the process of adapting Naomi Novik’s His Majesty’s Dragon for Fox) and Ben Queen are writing the pitch for Cola Wars, with Maia Eyre overseeing it for Sony. Everything else is up in the air at the moment. We will just have to wait for more info at a later date.

Tune back in to THS to find out more about Cola Wars and other movies when we do.
