At the D23 Convention on Friday, Disney held a gargantuan showcase for their various studios. One of the most anticipated films for the studio is Avatar 3. James Cameron came out to speak to the crowd and announced that the new title for the film would be Avatar: Fire and Ash. Outside of that title and some concept art, however, that’s all they revealed about the upcoming blockbuster film.

“There are new cultures and settings and creatures, and new biomes. You will see a lot more of Pandora, the planet, that you’ve never seen before. The new film is not what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want.”

Cameron returns to direct the film from a script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. It stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. Avatar: Fire and Ash releases in theaters on December 19th, 2025. Disney and 20th Century Studios have two more Avatar movies on the schedule with Avatar 4 releasing December 21st, 2029, and Avatar 5 set for December 19th, 2031.
