Disney is holding their D23 2024 Entertainment Showcase today, which means one thing: they’re announcing and showing off a bunch of different movies, TV shows, and more. Check out everything that was announced, as it’s happening live at 7:00 PM PT.
Yvette Nicole Brown came out to kick off the showcase as the host of the event! Following that announcement, they showed off a sizzle reel that included the first look at Gal Gadot’s performance as the Evil Queen in the upcoming live-action Snow White film. Also shown off during the sizzle reel was Captain America, Skeleton Crew, and finished up with Wolverine saying “let’s F*CKING GO” from Deadpool & Wolverine, but with a censor.
Next up was Bob Iger coming out to a thunderous applause from the Honda Center crowd. He thanked the crowd and they quickly got into the presentation.
Moana 2 was the first up with a new trailer and a song premiere from the movie. Auli’i Cravalho took the stage to sing the brand new song. Joining her on stage was Maui or better known as Dwayne Johnson. The Rock made a joke at his own expense about his “off-key” singing in the first film and Auli’i revealed that Moana would be a big sister in the upcoming sequel. The villains in Moana 2 are “the storm of all storms” per The Rock. They showed off the official Moana 2 trailer below.
After Moana 2, The Rock stayed on stage to announce Monster Jam, a live-action experience from the POV of monster trucks and their drivers. He’ll be starring in the upcoming film.
Following that monstrous announcement, it was time for the massively high grossing film series Avatar. James Cameron took the stage, and here’s what he had to say: Avatar 3 is “going into really challenging characters for all the characters you know and love,” We will see “a lot more Pandora” than we’ve ever seen before. “The new film is definitely not what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want.” While they won’t be showing new footage from Avatar 3, they will show off some concept art and a title reveal.
The new title for Avatar 3 is Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Following that reveal, Pixar took the stage to talk about the success of Inside Out 2. Speaking about that success, they announced a new series for Disney+ called Dream Productions which is set between the first and second film. It follows Dream Productions, the movie studio inside Riley’s mind that makes up her dreams.
Next up was Toy Story 5, which will be directed by Andrew Stanton, who wrote all of the previous Toy Story movies. It’ll feature toys vs. tech and an army of malfunctioning Buzz Lightyear toys as the villain. They also announced the next Pixar film titled Hoppers. It comes out in the Spring of 2026. It’s told through the eyes of Mabel, a girl who is able to hop her mind into the body of a robot beaver and goes undercover in the animal world.
Pixar also announced that Zoe Saldana has joined the cast of their upcoming film Elio. The movie follows a boy who is mistakenly identified as the ambassador for Earth by aliens. It releases in theaters in Summer 2025.
There was another huge announcement from Pixar, The Incredibles 3 is officially in development.
Disney Animation took the stage next showing off the new cast for Zootopia 2. Ke Huy Quan joins the cast as a wanted reptile, Gary.
The company will release a pro-shot version of Frozen on Broadway on Disney+ next year. They also showed off some concept art from Frozen 3, which will be released in theaters in 2027. A fourth film in the series is potentially in the works.
They announced that a stage musical adaptation of The Greatest Showman is in the works. They’re also doing Hercules: The Musical in London. Up next was one of the main events for plenty of fans in attendance, Star Wars.
Jude Law came out to talk about the upcoming show on Disney+, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. They showed off the trailer for the new series.
Following that, Diego Luna came out to showcase the second season of the critically acclaimed Andor. They confirmed that Ben Mendelsohn would return for season two as Director Krennic from Rogue One. The second season will follow Cassian Andor over four years up to the events of Rogue One. Forest Whitaker will also reprise his role in Andor season two.
Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni took the stage to talk about The Mandalorian. Filoni had this to say: “I couldn’t imagine being involved in a film like this, with characters like this, especially a Baby Yoda. I don’t know where that came from!” They announced that The Mandalorian movie, The Mandalorian and Grogue will release in theaters in May 2026 and showed a sneak peek to attendees.
Marvel Studios was up next for the showcase. Ryan Reynolds introduced Kevin Feige to the Honda Center. Feige wow’ed the crowd with his Daredevil hat. Captain America: Brave New World was up first for the comic-book giant. Captain America, Anthony Mackie took the stage to talk about the upcoming MCU film. The first clip from the film was of Harrison Ford’s President Ross giving a speech on Adamantium being harvested from the Celestial. It looks like it’s similar footage that was shown from San Diego Comic-Con to Hall H.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps was next, which is underway filming in London right now. The cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn sent a video message to the Honda Center crowd. They showed the same footage that Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con saw last week.
Ryan Coogler took the stage to talk about the Disney+ Marvel series, Ironheart. They showed off footage of the series for the very first time to the crowd. The cast of the series, including Dominique Thorne, Anthony Ramos, and Alden Ehrenreich,
Daredevil: Born Again was next, and is releasing on Disney+ in March 2025. They confirmed that Jon Bernthal would return as The Punisher in the series. Any fans that are worried about them not carrying on from the Netflix series that so many love, they assuaged those fears, “We’ve channeled the essence of the original Netflix series.” The second season of the show begins filming soon. They showed a teaser from the upcoming season to the crowd. The trailer featured characters like Kingpin, Foggy, The Punisher, Bullseye, White Tiger, and the classic red suit for Daredevil.
Agatha: All Along was next and it came with a new trailer.
After that, it was all done for Marvel Studios and Marvel Television.
Percy Jackson And The Olympians season two is titled The Sea of Monsters. It arrives on Disney+ in 2025. Descendants: The Rise Of Red is making its Disney Channel debut after airing on Disney+ originally. They’re also doing a crossover with Descendants and Z-O-M-B-I-E-S called Worlds Collide Tour, which is coming soon.
A new National Geographic show titled David Blaine: Do Not Attempt was shown off. The mystery gift that the crowd was given and told not to open was a deck of cards, and he’s doing a mass magic trick with all of them.
After that it was time for Freaky Friday 2 from Walt Disney Studios! Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan took the stage to give details about the upcoming sequel. The new title for the film is Freakier Friday! It hits theaters next year.
The live-action version of Lilo and Stitch is coming to theaters in Summer 2025.
They moved on from Lilo and Stitch to Tron: Ares. In the footage shown, Jared Leto’s character Ares is a program that becomes self-aware and moves into the real world trying to take it over. Nine Inch Nails is doing the music for the film. Jared Leto and the rest of the cast of the film took the stage to talk about the film.
Disney also came out and showed off a new look at Snow White starring Rachel Zegler. It hits theaters on March 21st, 2025.
Following that was a look at the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King.The new live action Lion King movie releases in theaters on December 20th.
