The newly reestablished classic horror production company Hammer Studios is getting ready to add some suspense and scares to our summer. The studio will officially debut Doctor Jekyll this August.
Described as a modern interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s iconic 1886 novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, the film will star Eddie Izzard in the lead role. Check out the latest trailer below for a look at the movie.
According to Hammer, Doctor Jekyll will play out as “a slow-burn gothic horror that delves into themes of duality, concocting a surprising mix of dark humor and flashes of camp within a twisted fairytale.”
The feature comes from director Joe Stephenson, with a screenplay by Dan Kelly-Mulhern. In addition to Izzard starring as Dr. Nina Jekyll, the film also stars Scott Chambers, Simon Callow, Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde, Morgan Watkins, and Robyn Cara.
Hammer Films produced iconic early horror films like 1958’s Dracula. The studio also manages a vast library that includes the likes of The Woman in Black (2012) and Let Me In (2010).
Doctor Jekyll will premiere in theaters and on VOD August 2.
