Rite Here Rite Now was such a resounding success for Ghost at the box office around the world, that the movie is now expanding its release window. The concert film from Ghost was originally supposed to only last for two days, and then got bumped to four days, and now it’ll stretch past two weeks in theaters. The movie grossed $5.04 million on 751 screens around the world. This is exceptionally unusual for a band that doesn’t have the casual fanbase size of something like Queen or AC/DC.
The movie features footage of the band playing at the Forum in Los Angeles, CA. It’s interspersed with footage of the band telling the ongoing story of their “fifth” leader singer Cardinal Copia. The top territories for the film were the United States with $2.4 million, the UK with $600,000, Germany with over $332,000, Mexico with $326,000, and Canada with over $223,000.
The band has unveiled a new track from the movie, titled “The Future Is A Foreign Land”.
While its wicked twangy guitar figures and portentous lyrics of an impending 1984 render the song instantly recognizable as an artifact of the era, “Future…” is suffused with presciently modern signatures of the contemporary GHOST sound. Ending with an optimistic nod to 2024, “Future…” was revealed to the children of the world during the end credits of RITE HERE RITE NOW’s world premiere, and is the sole previously unreleased studio track to be included on the movie’s original soundtrack.
