Stephen King terrified the world with The Shining with it first published in 1977. Likewise, the movie adaptation in 1980 truly haunted people’s dreams. Not satisfied with the fear he instilled the first time, King brought us back to the Overlook Hotel with 2013’s Doctor Sleep. Well, prepare to be horrified on the big screen once more.

Ewan McGregor stars in the Warner Bros. adaptation of King’s best-selling, follow-up novel to The Shining. In Doctor Sleep he plays Danny Torrance, forty years after his family’s ordeal at the Overlook. Joining McGregor in the film are Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible series) and up-and-coming actress Kyliegh Curran.

Doctor Sleep comes to the big screen

Here is the official synopsis for Doctor Sleep:

Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace.  But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.

Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose.  Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.

Ewan McGregor steps away from rumors of the return of Obi Wan Kenobi (Star Wars) to star in the supernatural, psychological thriller. Meanwhile, Ferguson returns to the screen following her turn in last year’s The Greatest Showman as Rose the Hat. Curran makes her big-screen debut. Horror director Mike Flannigan directs Doctor Sleep from his own screenplay based on King’s novel.

Doctor Sleep hits theaters in the US on November 8. Based on the trailer… we suggest you don’t go alone.
