Sasaki and Peeps Ep. 4 “The Prince and the Sage” is quite the heartwarming episode after the melancholy of the previous one. I would best describe this latest episode as the breaking dawn after the long night. After you watch this episode, I think that might be your opinion as well. Especially when you get to see who lives in this episode.

Sasaki and Peeps Ep. 4 “The Prince and the Sage”: Synopsis

Tiny birb is always the winner!

As you might guess by now, Sasaki and Peeps Ep. 4 “The Prince and the Sage” is a brand new anime. It only just premiered 4 weeks ago, after all. Thus, I will be giving you all the official synopsis from Crunchyroll in lieu of a spoiler-filled plot summary. Or at least, I would if there was any synopsis to give. As of this writing, there is only a blank space where the episode synopsis should be. Thus, you will all have to be satisfied with the official Crunchyroll synopsis of the anime as a whole. You can read that below:

Sasaki is a middle-aged office worker living in Japan. Feeling drained by the vapid corporate world, he heads to the pet shop in search of a new companion. There he finds an adorable bird named Peeps and takes him home. But Sasaki quickly learns that Peeps isn’t your average bird…he’s a powerful mage from another world! Together, they embark on a magical adventure filled with swords and sorcery.

Anyone else hearing that Peter Pan song when they see this scene?

The best part of Sasaki and Peeps Ep. 4 “The Prince and the Sage” is definitely the story. All the more so after the melancholic and depressing tone of the previous episode. It’s the milk and sugar to the pure cocoa of that previous episode. It really does feel like this episode of the anime is the bright and happy morning after the long night.

There’s also a very happy development in this episode plot-wise. I can’t go too much into it without spoilers, though. The only thing I will give you is that a character once thought dead turns out to be alive in this episode. An exceptionally likeable character to boot, so seeing them alive once more gives me the happy feels.

There are also some other plot-critical developments in this episode, especially regarding Peeps/Pii-chan. No spoilers, but a few select characters now realize that this little bird is not quite just a little bird. It will be interesting to see how this affects the plot going forward.

Not this though. This is just plain adorable.

I do have one complaint about Sasaki and Peeps Ep. 4 “The Prince and the Sage”: the animation. Specifically: how inconsistent it is. You have this beautiful animation in one part of the episode, and then the next part features crudely drawn blobs. This is not the kind of animation I want to see accompany this amazing story. It’s like watching a Shakespeare play in which the actors and props occasionally switch places with Muppets, and not in a funny way. I love the story, but the animation in this episode is weirdly lacking in places for some reason. I honestly hope this doesn’t become a trend.
