It’s one and done for a series that marked Sarah Michelle Gellar’s long-awaited return to television. News has just surfaced that Paramount+ has canceled Wolf Pack after only one season.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount+ was initially interested in pursuing a second season of the supernatural series after it wrapped up its eight-episode run last March. Those plans changed when the dual writer and actor strikes caused several delays in developing a second season.
If the streamer went ahead with Season 2, the delay in development would’ve meant that the show couldn’t return until 2025, and that wasn’t going to work for the platform because they would have to spend extra money to market a show that had been off the air for a considerable amount of time.
Wolf Pack is a supernatural series that came from the mind of Jeff Davis, creator of MTV’s Teen Wolf. Based on the 2004 book of the same name written by Edo van Belkom, the show follows a teenage boy and girl who have their lives turned upside down when a California wildfire awakens a deadly creature. Soon they find themselves linked to other teens in the area who have to come together to unravel the secret that connects them.
Gellar portrayed Kristin Ramsey, an arson investigator who is charged with investigating the cause of the fire and someone who may have a secret of her own. The show marked a return to television for Gellar, who is still a genre fan favorite for playing Buffy Summers for seven seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
