Did you see 2007’s Grindhouse? It was a double-feature directed by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. In between the two movies, there are fake trailers for coming attractions. One of those fake trailers was Thanksgiving, directed by Eli Roth. Now, it looks like the prophecy has been fulfilled and we’re actually getting Thanksgiving.
Here’s a synopsis from Sony Pictures:
After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the holiday. Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings are soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan. Will the town uncover the killer and survive the holidays…or become guests at his twisted holiday dinner table?
While it doesn’t look like it carries the same grungy, gross, pulpy style of the original trailer, this still looks like a fun holiday-themed slasher. Holiday slashers not based around Halloween or Christmas are hard to come by. Luckily we have a new-age master of horror in Eli Roth doing this one.
Just from the trailer alone, it looks like there are some really disturbing and inventive kills around the holiday and themes of Thanksgiving.
It stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Neil Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Gershon.
Look for Thanksgiving in theaters this November 2023.
