Time and space and the “Queen of Queens.” The latest cast member to join Doctor Who will be Jinkx Monsoon.
The award-winning actress, singer, and two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner officially joins the cast for season 14. Details about Monsoon’s specific role remain under wraps (like most plans for the season). However, the BBC did specify Monsoon would play “a major role” in the series – so more than just a simple cameo.
“I’m honored, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who! Russell T. Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer – I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage,” said Monsoon of the role.
Monsoon joins Ncuti Gatwa (The Doctor) and Millie Gibson (companion Ruby Sunday) for Doctor Who’s fourteenth season. The show recently announced five additional cast members as well.
The upcoming season will see Davies return as showrunner; he helmed the series during Doctor Who’s initial revival back in 2005.
“In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!” said Davies of the recent casting news.
Monsoon won season 5 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, as well as season 7 of All Stars. The performer recently completed a sold-out run in Chicago on Broadway, playing Matron ‘Mama’ Morton.
Doctor Who season 14 is currently in production. We don’t have a release date for the season just yet. However, fans can look out for the 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate later this year.
