Steven Yeun is one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood. Between star-making and award-nominated performances in The Walking Dead, Minari, and Nope, according to Deadline, he’s joining the MCU.
According to their sources, he’s joining Thunderbolts in a significant role in that film, but also one that is huge going forward in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He’s joining an ensemble cast of misfits and antiheroes that includes Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Olga Kurylenko. The film currently has a July 26th, 2024 release date in theaters.
Jake Schreier is the director of the new Marvel film with Eric Pearson writing the script. There’s not much known about the exact plot of the film, but the comics are about a ragtag group of villains and antiheroes coming together for dangerous missions that other heroes can’t do.
In the comics, the Thunderbolts have comprised of Baron Zemo, U.S. Agent, The Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, and Abomination. All of those characters have appeared in one way or another in the most recent phase of Marvel’s programming with Disney+ shows and movies.
We learned at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 that Thunderbolts would close out Phase 5 of the MCU, which kicked off in February 2023 with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The current roster of characters in the film is: Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, Winter Soldier, US Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster. It’s rumored that the villain of the film is the powerful being Sentry.
