Get ready for more horror out of Derry. HBO Max has officially ordered It prequel Welcome To Derry to series.

Set in the world of Stephen King’s “IT” universe, Welcome to Derry (working title) draws on King’s novel and expands on the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films IT (2017) and IT Chapter Two (2019).

Muschietti will remain attached to the universe in the upcoming series as a producer, along with his sister Barbara Muschietti. He also directs multiple episodes, including the pilot. Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serve as co-showrunners.

“As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s ‘IT’ until the thick paperback fell to pieces,” said the Muschiettis in a statement. “‘IT’ is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our ‘IT’ movies. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity and horror.”

Original author King gave the project his seal of approval as well.

“I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara,” said King. “Red balloons all around!”

Welcome to Derry doesn’t have any release information available just yet. So, check back to THS for more updates.
