Well Fast Family, we’ve almost caught up to Fast X. Today our celebration of all things Fast and Furious continues with the eighth film in the franchise, The Fate of the Furious.
Everything about Fate of the Furious kicks the film into high-gear, from its high-stakes personal conflicts to its world-altering supervillain plot. The movie introduces Charlize Theron as Cipher, a cyberterrorist who blackmails Dom into betraying those closest to him. But it’s really all about family, as Dom tries to protect the son he didn’t know he had with Elena.
The film sees the return of Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), the Shaw brothers (Luke Evans and Jason Statham), and Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) from previous installments, as well as Elsa Pataky’s Elena. Dame Helen Mirren even pops up in a cameo as the mother of the Shaws.
In a now classic case of one-upmanship, The Fate of the Furious takes its car-based, fast-driving roots to new heights (literally and figuratively). Cipher makes it rain virtually-commandeered vehicles. The gang gets in a high-speed chase over icy water. We explode a submarine with an above-ground missile. And this family of former small-time criminals prevents nuclear fallout.
Oh, Fast and Furious. Never change.
