Well, it looks like it’s official: Rafael Casal will appear in Loki season 2.
Rumors of Casal’s involvement in the series began following a photo leak that appeared to show him on set of the Marvel show. The image showed Casal alongside Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius. Now, Deadline has confirmed Casal is set for a major role in the upcoming season.
However, specific details about Casal’s character remain unknown. (Current online speculation points to Zaniac. But again, fans will have to wait for more official word from Marvel for now.)
Loki picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. Imprisoned by the Time Variance Authority, Loki must either face being erased from existence or help the TVA fix the timeline and stop a greater threat.
The new six-episode season comes from writer Eric Martin, with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead co-directing most episodes. The duo recently work on another Disney+ Marvel series, Moon Knight with Oscar Isaac.
Casal co-wrote, produced, and starred in the film Blindspotting with Daveed Diggs. He carried over his role and took on showrunning duties for Starz’s series spinoff as well. Casal’s credits also include Good Lord Bird, Bad Education, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?
