It’s a classic case of love over destiny: vampire hunter falls for vampire. Or vampire falls for vampire hunter. Either way, it’s the premise of Netflix’s upcoming sapphic supernatural drama, First Kill.

The series is based on the short story by V.E. Schwab, who described it as “Buffy meets Killing Eve.” And based on the first trailer, that seems like a fairly apt comparison.

Take a bite of First Kill with the trailer below.

The series stars Sarah Catherine Hook as teen vampire Juliette, who finds herself drawn to vampire hunter Calliope, played by Imani Lewis. The trailer for First Kill delivers exactly what you expect from this premise. We’ve got high school drama, the conflict and pressures of familial duties, and of course, romance. (Evidently, First Kill isn’t trying to set itself up as a “will they, won’t they” type story. Soon-to-be fans can rest easy knowing Cal and Juliette do get together.)

Honestly, the trailer for First Kill proved the kind that gives away plenty about the show (maybe even too much?). But for more details, here’s the full synopsis from Netflix:

When it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette (Hook) to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope (Lewis). But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for.

First Kill premieres June 10 on Netflix. The series will include eight hour-long episodes.
