With the success of Denis Villenueve’s 2021 version of Dune, it’s only natural that we’d get a spinoff series like Dune: The Sisterhood. To top it all off though, it’s apparently now going to feature the same director who directed the Chernobyl mini-series. At least, partially.
Chernobyl Director Heads To Warmer Sets?
Variety has just reported that HBO Max and Legendary Television have snagged Johan Renck (Downloading Nancy, Vikings, Chernobyl) to direct part of Dune: The Sisterhood. Specifically: Renck will direct the first 2 episodes of this spinoff series to the 2021 version of Dune. In addition, Renck will also serve as an executive producer for the entirety of the show. Thus, you can expect to see Renck’s influence far beyond just the first 2 episodes.
Dune: The Sisterhood ~ Details
Dune: The Sisterhood will be a 5-episode spinoff series of the 2021 version of Dune by Denis Villenueve. This spinoff series was originally going to feature Villeneuve himself as the director and co-writer, but he had other plans. Namely: the sequel to the Dune film itself. This series will feature Diane Ademu-John (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Empire, The Vampire Diaries) as the showrunner. This series will be co-produced by HBO Max and Legendary Television. Presumably, the series will be an HBO Max exclusive, but we don’t know that yet. We also have no idea when we’ll get to see this spinoff series since neither HBO Max nor Legendary Television has unveiled the release date yet.
What we do have though is a short synopsis of Dune: The Sisterhood from Variety. Check it out below:
“The show is set 10,000 years prior to the events of “Dune” and follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.”
JoBlo.com has more information on the plot of this spinoff series in the form of more details about Dune: The Sisterhood. Specifically: about the Bene Gesserit and their plans. Check it out below:
