“I am a leaf on the wind….” Wait, wrong fandom. Still, we are talking about Alan Tudyk. The quirky actor earned himself a near cult-like following for his portrayal of Hoban “Wash” Washburne in Firefly and Serenity. He earned himself another for his work in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as K-2SO, a smart-talking, reprogrammed Imperial security droid. Star Wars fans immediately fell in love with the droid, and now there’s a chance we might see him again.

Disney and Lucasfilm announced some time ago that a live-action, Rogue One spinoff series was in the works for Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. The serial spy thriller will feature Diego Luna, reprising his role of Cassian Andor. Production on the show begins this October. But how can you have Cassian without K-2SO?

Will K-2SO Return for Cassian Andor Series?

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Tudyk dropped some subtle hints that, just maybe, K-2SO might make a return. “It’s a prequel, so it is a prequel. I love those guys, I do,” said Tudyk. “Diego Luna is one of my favorite people on the planet. I know what they’re doing and it’s very exciting. We talked about it.”

Now, certainly those comments don’t confirm a K-2SO return, specifically. Notwithstanding, It’s seldom that show or movie producers share details of the production with those that aren’t directly involved. So why share details for the Cassian Andor spinoff with Alan Tudyk if K-2SO won’t be featured somehow?

The droid’s return certainly makes sense. When we meet him in Rogue One and see him interact with Cassian, it’s clear that the two have developed a relationship. That takes time. As Tudyk said, K-2SO “…was sort of reborn when Cassian gave him his reprogramming.” It’s hard to imagine an entire series about Cassian, leading up to the events of Rogue One, that doesn’t include the sarcastic and cynical security droid.
