Check out the first teaser for Being the Ricardos below.
Being the Ricardos explores the complex personal and professional relationship of Ball and Arnaz, taking viewers behind the scenes into the sitcom’s writers’ room, soundstage, and more. In particular, the drama is set against the backdrop of pulling together the I Love Lucy episode “Fred and Ethel Fight,” which sees Lucy try to reunite her neighbors after an argument.
But while Ball and Arnaz attempt to pull together the latest episode, they’re struggling with personal conflicts as well; Ball was being investigated by the House of Un-American Activities Committee for ties to Communism; Arnaz was dealing with the fallout of a cover spread in a tabloid titled “Desi’s Wild Night Out.” The film will focus on showing new sides to the famous couple many haven’t seen before.
“The only thing better than a story people don’t know is a story that people think they know but they’re wrong,” Sorkin told Entertainment Weekly.
Being the Ricardos stars Nicole Kidman as Ball and Javier Bardem as Arnaz. Additional stars include Jake Lacy, J.K. Simmons, Nina Arianda, Tony Hale, and Alia Shawkat.
Being the Ricardos premieres in theaters December 10 and on Amazon Prime Video December 21.
