Does anyone remember that old mecha anime Eureka Seven back in 2005? Well, as it turns out, it now has an anime film trilogy called Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution. Not only that, but Funimation is bringing the final part of that trilogy to North American theaters.

Hmm, looks like a typical action film poster. Only, the hero is a heroine this time.

At New York Comic-Con 2021, Funimation announced their plans for the release of Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution. Apparently, they plan to release the final part of this anime film trilogy in US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand theaters sometime next year in 2022. Unfortunately, Funimation doesn’t specify exactly when in 2022 we’ll see this film. It could be anywhere from January to December 2022 given the vague wording. We’ll just have to wait for official info from Funimation later. In the meantime, we do have a synopsis of this film from Funimation for you:

EUREKA: EUREKA SEVEN HI-EVOLUTION is set after the events of the previous film. Eureka has lived alone in atonement for ten years, hated by the world and blamed for the chaos that destroyed everything. In a fateful encounter, she receives an order to protect Iris, a new “Eureka,” who has the ability to produce Scab Corals. It’s a fateful meeting between the former Eureka, who has lost her powers, and Iris, who fears her powers. When Eureka is asked to put her life on the line as a new crisis arises, will Eureka have the strength to protect Iris and the world? What future awaits her at the end of her journey?”

AKA: the surprise sci-fi anime film.

In addition to that vague release date for Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution, Funimation is also using their NYCC 2021 appearance to announce an official release date for Sing a Bit of Harmony. Apparently, we’ll see this musical sci-fi anime film in US, Canadian, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand theaters next year as well. Only, they give a much more specific release date of January 2022 this time around. Looks like we won’t have that long to wait to hear a gynoid try to sing people into happiness. You can read the official synopsis from Funimation below:

Sing a Bit of Harmony tells the story of the beautiful and mysterious Shion (Tao Tsuchiya) who transfers to Keibu High School where she quickly becomes popular for her open-hearted personality and exceptional athletic talent… but she turns out to be an AI (artificial intelligence) in the testing phase! Shion’s goal is to bring chronic loner Satomi (Haruka Fukuhara) “happiness.” But her strategy is something no human would expect: she serenades Satomi in the middle of the classroom. After finding out that Shion is an AI, Satomi and her childhood friend, engineering geek Toma (Asuka Kudo), steadily warm up to the new student. Along with the popular and attractive Gotchan (Kazuyuki Okitsu), the strong-willed Aya (Mikako Komatsu), and judo club member “Thunder” (Satoshi Hino), they become more and more moved by Shion’s singing voice and earnestness even as her antics bewilder them. But what Shion does for Satomi’s sake ends up involving them all in some serious pandemonium… Get ready for the heartwarming story of a not quite market-ready AI and her classmates!

Conclusion

For NYCC 2021, Funimation is announcing the release of Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution in theaters next year in 2022. They don’t specify exactly when in 2022 though. At the same time, they also want to announce the release date for Sing a Bit of Harmony. For this anime film, they do give a more specific release date of January 2022. It looks like next year is going to be the year of sci-fi anime films for Funimation.
